Bowls: Meyer lags in opener

New Zealand lawn bowler Russell Meyer made a shaky start to his defence of the Golden Nugget Invitation singles title at Tweed Heads in New South Wales yesterday, losing 11-25 to Australian international Nathan Rice.

Rice comfortably won the race to 25 shots in their opening group match of the tournament.

Gary Lawson won his opening match 25-22 against South Australian Gary Thompson.
