Australia-based Russell Meyer will be seeking to be the first New Zealander to successfully defend the Tweed Heads bowling club's Golden Nugget invitational singles title which begins on Monday.
Meyer, 34, formerly of Palmerston North, will have his work cut out for him, with this year's field including Commonwealth Games triples gold medallist Mark Casey, Games singles gold medallist Kelvin Kerkow, Games pairs bronze medallists Barrie Lester and Nathan Rice, and reigning world singles champion Steve Glasson.
