The North Harbour centre achieved a rare double when the national provincial bowls championships finished in Palmerston North yesterday.
The men's open team, led by Rowan Brassey in the singles, won the national title by moving ahead of the overnight leaders, Manawatu.
Then the Harbour development men's team won its event to take out the John Flett Trophy, which was at stake for the first time in this competition. Previously at national level, it had been competed for at junior level.
Brassey won both his singles yesterday, against Manawatu's Stephen Love and Counties-Manukau's Dwayne Cameron. The win over Cameron was especially significant, for Cameron had beaten Brassey in last year's national singles final at Henderson.
The other members of the Harbour team were Justin Goodwin and Neven Grgicevich in the pairs and Danny O'Connor, Brent Turner and Colin Rogan in the triples.
The Harbour development team was Scott Curran (singles), Bain McLean and Shane Stewart (pairs) and Con Kater, Bob Howitt and Trevor Forward (triples).
The Waikato team won the women's open and Northland the women's development, completing a great tournament for teams from the north.
