New Zealand singles representative Kerry Chapman from Henderson is among the last four who will battle for one place in the rich world indoor singles championships in England in January.
At the Dorchester complex in Pukekohe, Chapman will play fellow national representative Andrew Curtain (Elmwood), while Lou Newman (Victoria) plays Mike Reid (Avondale) in the semifinals.
The winner of today's final will join Rowan Brassey as New Zealand's representatives. Brassey qualifies as he has a world ranking.
Earlier, Waikato's Steve Posa won the qualifying tournament to represent New Zealand at the international open in England in November.
Posa, who represented New Zealand at this year's world singles in England, beat Jamie Hill from Avondale, 3-2 in the final. Chapman and Tauranga South's Graham Skellern being the beaten semifinalists.
