KEY POINTS:
Clint Park and his father, Ray, won the men's title at the national club pairs bowls championships in Rotorua yesterday.
The women's title went to former New Zealand representative Bett Prattley, of Geraldine. She toppled the leader, Bunty Barron, of Kaitaia Combined, going into the fifth and final round by a decisive 22-6 margin.
The Parks, of Wanganui, held out their main opposition, Maurice Symes and Kelvin Scott, of Canterbury's Belfast club, in the last game 16-15.
While the Parks scored an important fourth-round win over Ross Haresnape and Tony Grantham, of Birkenhead, Symes and Scott lost their morning match to put them in a vulnerable position entering the final round.
A five on the 12th end, whenSymes was ahead 11-8, proved the decisive break and the Wanganui pair then clung to their lead.
The Parks were part of the Wanganui team who won the fours at the national championships this year.
Skip Clint Park paid tribute to his father, saying: "The old man played a couple of screamers in the last end when they had to get three."
