There was a repeat of last year's final in the women's section of the Bowls New Zealand Kittyhawk National under 21 singles tournament with Cait Basset from Allenton and Ashleigh Jeffcoat from Frankton Junction playing off for top honours again, however the tables were turned this year and it was Jeffcoat who came with the silverware.
In the men's side of things Stefan McCartain from the Gate Pa Club walked away the victor, defeating Jonty Horwell from Dunedin's Kaikorai Club.
Basset had a dream start in the women's final and looked certain to reclaim her title when she was ahead 13-0. Bassett continued to hold the lead but slowly and surely Jeffcoat accumulated points and drew level at the 21st end.
Jeffcoat played a very steady game, consistently picking up twos and threes, this whittled Bassett's hold on the game and she had no answer for her determined opposition.
Jeffcoat regained the title she won two years ago, taking the game 21-19.
