SYDNEY - Marlene Castle yesterday successfully defended her singles title as New Zealand scooped the men's and women's team trophies at the Asia Pacific bowls championships.
Castle beat Norfolk Islander Carmen Anderson 21-11 in the final.
But Sean Johnson in the men's singles and the women's four of Patsy Jorgensen, Sharon Sims, Jo Edwards and Anne Lomas had to settle for silver.
The women's four were unbeaten going into their final but went down 22-14 to Australia, and Johnson lost to Hong Kong's Noel Kennedy 21-7.
The New Zealand men's four of Kerry Chapman, Russell Meyer, Rowan Brassey and Paul Girdler shared the bronze with Malaysia.
