Lochhead and Pitman beat Australians Sean Thomas and Justin Feuerriegel 21-10, 21-13 and next play Venezuela's Farid Mussa and Cesar Castro to qualify for the main draw.
Anna Scarlett and Susan Blundell beat Russia's Valentina Popova and Anastasia Vasina, 21-19, 14-21, 15-13 but lost to top seeds Rieke Brink-Abeler and Hella Jurich of Germany 16-21 11-21 to miss the main draw.
