Susan Blundell and Anna Scarlett emerged as the best of the New Zealand combinations with a fourth placing in the women's competition at the US$40,000 ($51,000) Asian beach volleyball championships in Hyderabad, India.
Blundell and Scarlett lost 17-21 13-21 in the semifinals to the top Thailand pair, Kamoltip Sannok and Yupa Phukrong. In the play-off for the bronze, they were beaten 13-21, 19-21 by the Thailand 2 pairing.
New Zealand's other women's pair, Micah Lindsay-Brown and Emma Preston, finished ninth while Russell Watson and Greg Lindsay-Brown, men's bronze medallists last year, finished sixth.
