And long-time friend Wallace couldn't help but "embarrass Penney a little" as the radio host spilled a "gross but magnificent" story about the former Tall Black.
Wallace travelled to Wisconsin for Penney's bachelor party were they attended a Milwaukee Brewers baseball game before the evening turned "loose".
"We went to a Brewers game … we turn up there, and it was his stag do, and the camera pans around ... and the whole crowd starts shouting 'Penney, Penney, Penney', so we were with this celebrity that we didn't know was a celebrity which was a pretty cool thing," said Wallace.
"We had to look after Kirk, we had to preserve him, because he was so famous in the town."
"We saw him getting a little bit drunk at the pizza bar after the stag do … and he did a vomit, just a small vomit onto his pizza."
"So we grabbed Kirk and whipped him out of the bus so no one saw it, and then when I came back in to say to the others, 'oh we better get home,' his cousin Jarred had eaten the pizza!"
"It is the worst story in the entire world."
Wallace also shared about his high school basketball career alongside Penney, revealing how they utilised the Breakers great to lead them to victory.
"We played [for] Westlake Boys together and our strategy there was pretty much get Kirk the ball and get out of the way," said Wallace.
"When we went to North Harbour and played in the men's division in the national league it was pretty much the same strategy there, get the ball to Kirk, get out of the way!"
I remember @kirkpenney dropping 50 points on our Auckland Grammar team. Westlake running 3 man screens for him. Killed us every time. We all followed his career. When he made the @NBA , we felt like we made the Nba. lol. Wonderful career.
Samoan rugby union footballer, Eliota Fuimaono-Sapolu, also saluted Penney's career, tweeting: "I remember @kirkpenney dropping 50 points on our Auckland Grammar team.
