KEY POINTS:
New Zealand basketball international Kirk Penney has given a boost to the NZ Breakers ANBL team by re-signing for two years.
The prolific scoring 27-year-old, one of only two New Zealanders to have played in the NBA, has been seduced by the attractions of home and motivated by a desire to help build a successful club.
"I believe in the team and what the club is striving to do," Penney said.
The Tall Black is averaging almost 23 points a game during his debut ANBL season - second only to hot shot Brisbane Bullet Ebi Ere.
Penney said he needed to make his intentions clear and trust that everyone else had the same passion to see the Breakers realise their potential.
Penney said his agent had a number of European teams interested in short-term contracts during the ANBL off-season.
The prospect of extending his contract had been in the back of his mind for a while because he loved being home, Penney said.
The North Shore native left to play American college basketball in 1999.
