After professing his love for the city of Chicago and wanting to win where he was, it all changed in the space of only a few minutes and with one phone call.
"You do hear about trade rumours here and there, and this last one, the Knicks one was pretty big because it caught a lot of people's attention," Rose said.
"I'm good with being in Chicago. We're trying to win there, get back on the right track, so that's the only thing I can think about. Being in Chicago, but I do hear the rumours. I never really thought about packing up and leaving or demanding a trade."
Then the phone rang.
Rose is interrupted mid-interview with a call from his agent BJ Armstrong who informs him a trade to the New York Knicks is about to go down.
The scenes are hard to watch as Rose leaves the house and does his best to fight back tears as the bombshell news hits home.
He eventually returns to the cameras and is asked about the call, but struggles to give answers as the emotions of what has just happened takes hold.
Rose ended up playing only one season with the Knicks before jumping ship to the Cleveland Cavaliers and Minnesota Timberwolves.
As the NBA Playoffs get set to begin on Sunday, players not taking part are positioning themselves for free agency, with Rose hoping a return to Chicago could be on the cards.
"There's no secret, there's no doubt that in his heart, Chicago will always be there," Armstrong said on radio on Tuesday.
"We'll see. I don't know what the Bulls are going to do at this particular time … If it presented itself, we'd be open to that conversation. We'll find out in due time."
