The SKYCITY Breakers have received an update form Auckland Hospital concerning Akil Mitchell, the following statement is from Club General Manager Dillon Boucher.
"I have had an update from a member of our medical team who is with Akil at Auckland Hospital. They have been advised by the specialists that Akil is sitting up and resting, and has vision to his injured eye. While there is some damage, the early reports are very positive that the injury is not as serious as first feared.
"Akils immediate recovery has been such that he is being released to return home, but will undergo further medical tests tomorrow.
"This is obviously the best possible news after what was a frightening situation. I am extremely proud of the way this was handled by everyone in the SKYCITY Breakers organization, but in particular the courage of the team and coaches in completing tonights game.
"I would like to thank all the fans also for their messages of support, we will update further once we have more information, but this is good initial news for Akil, our thoughts and prayers continue to be with him for a full recovery."
