Some, like Mika Vukona, appear a slam dunk. Others, such as Sunday's hero Ekene Ibekwe, present a few more difficulties. But there is confidence within the club surrounding the other eight spots on the roster.
"Over the next two weeks we'll be going through it with everyone and seeing what their plans are, what our plans are, and the idea would be to keep the whole group together," said chief executive Richard Clarke.
Vukona, the leader of that group, is seeking a three-year contract that would enable the 32-year-old to finish his career with the Breakers. Clarke said the club would be more than comfortable with that arrangement, and "I'd like to think that with a lot of the guys it would be a similar no-brainer discussion."
Alex Pledger will be going nowhere, with a contract that extends into next season and foot surgery scheduled that will see the centre on the sidelines for three to six months.
There are, though, question marks over the other two fixtures in the starting five. Tall Blacks pair Tom Abercrombie and Corey Webster both began their Breakers careers as development players but both have expressed interest in exploring European basketball. The club will be hoping to reach a compromise that would see the Kiwis retain the opportunity of an offshore stint but remain with the Breakers in the long term.
"Tom and Corey are local boys who we do want to keep," Clarke said. "With both of them we'll be trying to structure contracts where they play here and then have that opportunity to go and play elsewhere short-term."
Abercrombie did as much last year in France - this off-season will instead be filled with a wedding and travel - and Ibekwe will do the same with an interim deal in Puerto Rico.
The Nigerian international is a true basketball nomad, having played for 11 teams in nine countries, and his signature will be prized. Ibekwe relished his time in New Zealand and said he'd love to return, but the strong New Zealand dollar has created an obstacle in the salary cap.
"We were fortunate to get him this year and there was a bit of risk involved, as he was coming off a foot injury," Clarke said. "He's been on some big contracts around the world so we'd have to be able to compete in the money area."
The coaching staff that guided this year's group to glory are back; Dean Vickerman and Paul Henare have another season on their deals and Judd Flavell's is ongoing.
