It's been a close shave for the Breakers as they chase an all-important spot in the Australian NBL basketball playoffs, and members of the squad experienced a close shave of a different kind today.
A handful of players and support staff had their heads shaved as part of Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand's Shave for a Cure campaign.
Captain Mika Vukona even shaved the head of his own son before an attack on his own locks and assistant coach Judd Flavell walked away with a mohawk.
"People have said I should keep it," Flavell said, before seeing the results of his brush with the clippers. "But I'm not sure if they are trying to pull the wool over my eyes. It's good for now but it will come off to even this thing up. We don't want to steal the show from tomorrow's game, that's for sure."
The Breakers take on Melbourne tonight at the North Shore Events Centre needing to win at least one of their final two games to give themselves a good shot of making the playoffs.
