New Zealand Breakers forward Gary Wilkinson has been named NBL player of the week for round five following his efforts against the Adelaide 36ers.
The American scored an NBL season-high 29 points for the Breakers and added nine rebounds, one assist and one block to help the defending champs score a 99-90 victory over the Sixers last week.
Wilkinson made 13 of 18 shots from the field (72 per cent) including three of five three-pointers, pouring in 10 points in the final period to seal the victory for New Zealand.
His efforts ensured the Breakers celebrated their opening home match at their regular venue of North Shore Events Centre with a win on the night they raised their 2010/11 championship banner and retired the singlet of former captain Paul Henare.
Wilkinson's Breakers teammate Cedric Jackson also was considered for the award after recording 16 points, 11 assists, two rebounds, two steals and one block against the Sixers.
