KEY POINTS:
With two Player of the Week titles already to his name, Kirk Penney is the leading contender for the league's MVP award. The league's leading scorer, Penney has been fantastic and Perth coach Al Westover is probably right when he says that the shooting guard is too good for the league and should be playing in the NBA. That said, the real star turn for the Breakers this season has been CJ Bruton. The veteran point guard is among the league leaders in just about every statistical category and, more importantly, has also helped his teammates increase their output.
Bruton's ability to shoot from distance and score heavily from the point
guard position has added an extra dimension to the team's already potent
offence. What's more, he has demonstrated a big game mentality - the
tougher the situation the better he plays. Previously, for a game-winning shot with time up on the clock the job would have been Penney's. Now, however, it might well fall to Bruton.
