Point guard Lindsay Tait has rejected two offers from Australia and re-signed with the Breakers for another year in the Australian National Basketball League.
Tait has also given up thoughts of playing in Europe to stay with the Auckland-based Breakers.
A member of the club's original squad, he joins Paul Henare, Aaron Olson, Mike Chappell and Ben Pepper on next season's roster.
The Breakers said yesterday that more signings would be announced in the next week.
Tait, 23, said the birth of his son in September and the poor health of his grandfather played a part in his decision to stay in Auckland.
But the 1.9m Australian-born Tall Black said changes in club management and coaching personnel were the dominant factors.
He had enjoyed playing under new coach Andrej Lemanis and assistant coach Wayne Brown on the Breakers' tour of China a month ago.
"We're all getting on really well and I like the style we'll be striving to perfect. It's up-tempo on offence, pushing the ball and playing with flair, and defence is about getting up the court and putting pressure on the opposition."
Tait will join the Auckland Stars again in the off-season.
