The Breakers basketball team should have a new coach by the weekend, with the club's board having narrowed the applicants down to a short-list of four.
Tall Blacks coach Tab Baldwin is on the list, along with his assistant Nenad Vucinic, while the other two candidates are currently plying their trade as assistants in the Australian League.
Townsville's Andrej Lemanis and Perth's Dave Ingham make up the short-list.
Lemanis is the Townsville Crocs assistant, while Ingham, who is believed to be the front runner, is assisting with Perth.
Veteran coach in the Australian NBL Lindsay Gaze says the Breakers job has attracted a high calibre of coaches and Lemanis and Ingham are both experienced, and would bring a lot to the Breakers.
Gaze says both have had a lot of time with teams as assistant coaches, but Ingham is highly regarded as the backroom man with Perth.
Gaze doubts the Breakers could make a mistake because there is so much talent amongst the final four.
As for the sacked coach Frank Arsego, Gaze believes he will get picked up in an assistant coaching role in the ANBL for next season.
The Breakers and Tigers are set to play in a mini tournament in China in April and Gaze is hoping the new coach is just as enthusiastic as Arsego was about the idea.
