New Zealand Breakers' guard Kirk Penney has been rewarded for a prominent performance in his team's 93-79 win over the Cairns Taipans on Thursday by being named the Australian National Basketball League player of the week for round nine.
Penney scored a game-high 25 points and had six assists and two rebounds in a clash of two of the competition's top three sides.
Penney shot nine-of-14 from the field, including nailing seven-of-10 three-pointers to stall the charge of the Taipans, who had been on a five-game winning streak.
Penney is the second Breaker to win the award this season, with forward Gary Wilkinson named player of the week in round four.
