The New Zealand Breakers went down by a heart-breaking one point to the Townsville Crocodiles in a round six Australian National Basketball League match at the North Shore Events Centre last night.
Star import Carlos Powell had possession well away from shooting range in the last couple of seconds and raced down the line to put up a hurried shot but missed to the disappointment of the local fans.
A free throw from John Rillie proved the winner for the Crocodiles, who broke their long losing streak away from home with the 127-126 win.
The Breakers led 31-31 after the first quarter and 66-62 at halftime. The Crocs led 91-83 at the end of the third quarter but the Breakers stayed in touch inside the last minute.
The loss denied the Breakers their first back-to-back success for the first time this season. They play the Melbourne Tigers in Auckland next Thursday.
