Basketball: Breakers wrap up weekend double

Defending champion New Zealand finished its Australian road trip with a 98-82 win over the Hawks in Wollongong on Sunday evening.

Two nights after they shook off the Blaze on the Gold Coast, the Breakers built a 14-point quarter-time lead before faltering through the middle stages of the game.

Wollongong outscored the New Zealanders 44-30 over the second and third quarters, setting up an intriguing final quarter with the scores locked at 58-58.

The Breakers nearly scored that many points themselves in the last 10 minutes though, putting up 40 in the last quarter to storm home comfortable winners.

Cedric Jackson, who scored 11 in Friday night's win over the Blaze, posted a game-high 28 points, six rebounds, three steals and six assists.

Almost half his points came from the free-throw line as he frequently found himself the target of Hawks fouls, copping 10 in all.

Gary Wilkinson (16), Mika Vukona (13) and Thomas Abercrombie (11) all chipped in on the scoreboard for New Zealand.

Wollongong forward Larry Davidson led his team in scoring with 19 points ahead of Rhys Martin (16) and Mat Campbell (14).

But the Breakers' 54 per cent accuracy from downtown (7-of-13) and 56 per cent shooting overall proved too much for the Hawks to overcome.
