The upstart New Zealand Breakers' sensationally gate crashed Sydney Kings' minor premiership party in Sydney last night, wrecking the three-time champions bid to claim another slice of Australian National Basketball League history.
The Breakers succeeded where all others had failed this season at the Sydney Entertainment Centre, inflicting a shock 115-104 defeat on the title favourites, leaving the Kings one victory short of matching the 1986 Adelaide side which posted a winning streak of 20 home games unbeaten.
In a historic night for the increasingly combative Breakers they notched their maiden win at the Kings' fortress and nailed back-to-back wins on the road for the first time this season.
The Kings ended the regular season with a 15-1 home record, leaving a small but partisan crowd to vent their frustrations at the match officials.
