Los Angeles Clippers basketballer Josh Smith has claimed that living on his $6.9 million salary will make things "harder" on his family.
Smith, who signed with the Clippers this month after spending last season split between the Detroit Pistons and Houston Rockets, uttered this out-of-touch quote at his introductory press conference this week.
"At the end of the day, you know, I do have a family," he said. "So it is going to be a little harder on me this year. But I'm going to push through it, you know. ... I made a decision for me and my family."
Smith's contract with the Clippers will pay him $1.5 million next season, while the Pistons will also pay him $5.4 million after buying out his old contract, giving the erratic swingman a total salary for the 2015-16 season of $6.9 million.
Smith has earned $91 million in his career to date, raising the question of how luxuriously he and his family have been living of late.
