"To be on Pop's (coach Popovich) bench for a year and really learn from him and pick his brain and probably drive him crazy from time to time...it was just tremendous for me, no matter what happens and where I go or what I do, I'm going to have really fond memories and it will certainly help me out in the future."
The Spurs ended the Miami Heat's two-year title reign with a 104-87 victory that wrapped up the series in five games.
A year after their heart-breaking seven-game defeat, their only loss in six finals appearances, the Spurs won four routs to deny Miami's quest for a third straight championship.
Marks said the side celebrated with champagne in the locker room after the victory before spending time with their families and loved ones.
"It's always been about family and always been about the team at San Antonio so revolves around us as one big family. The guys obviously did the celebrations in the locker room with the champagne and whatnot but they were surrounded by their loved ones - the mums and dads, or kids and wives or girlfriends or whatnot. It was great. And we all went out to dinner as an organisation, really everybody just reminisced and hung out together and what a tremendous year it was. Very fitting," he said.
Marks had plenty of praise for Popovich in coming up with a gameplan to beat the Heat and to also motivate the Spurs after last season's disappointment.
"We realised from day one, we don't have the best player in the world on our team and we're against the best player in the world in LeBron. In order for our team and our group of guys to succeed they had to play exactly that, as a team and move the ball. There was no selfishness, that's what we did all year long.
"Coach Popovich did a tremendous job of relaying that message relentlessly to them saying 'hey, if we're going to go anywhere, we have to do this as a group. It's not going to work if guys have their own agendas'," Marks added.
"We watched the tape, we watched the highlights from last year and basically made it clear that our goal was to get and have a different outcome this time around."
