Basketball: Wellington ANBL bid shut out

The door has been firmly slammed shut on the Wellington Saints bid to join the Australian National Basketball League anytime soon.

The Saints have long courted a spot in the Australian competition and earlier this month reaffirmed their desire to league organisers.

But ANBL boss Chuck Harmison says its unlikely to happen anytime soon.

Harmison says their priority is to get a team back in Brisbane.

Harmison says they're also investigating expansion into Newcastle and a second team in the Melbourne market.

He says they won't rule anything out, but a second New Zealand team could be up to five years away.
