KEY POINTS:
Point guard Lindsay Tait racked up 36 points as Auckland Stars completed a season sweep over the lowly Canterbury Rams with a comfortable 104-94 home victory.
Tait, the 2005 NBL most valued player, said his decision to concentrate on "constantly attacking" his opponents had led to his season-high haul.
"[In previous games] we've gone through patches where we've kind of sat back," he said. The new approach worked "okay" but there was still plenty of room for improvement.
The Stars led by a point at quarter-time but blitzed the Rams (0-6) with a 34-point second quarter that stretched their lead to 14.
The Rams outscored the Stars by three in the third quarter to prevent a blowout but never seriously threatened the Auckland side, who improved to 4-1 to top the NBL table.
In other matches this round, Wellington Saints (4-2) hammered Otago Nuggets (1-4) 105-79 in the capital, Nelson Giants (4-2) beat Taranaki Mountain Airs (3-3) 89-86 in Nelson and Bay Hawkes (2-2) notched an 81-75 road victory over Waikato Pistons (1-2) on Friday night.
On Saturday, Manawatu Jets (1-1) posted their first victory of the season with an 104-81 victory over the Nuggets. Harbour Heat (3-0) remain the only undefeated side in the league after beating the Rams on Thursday night.
