The towering Oklahoma center first asked for clarification about what substance the journos were talking about before saying: "Oh, weed."
"I'm no doctor mate ... the only thing I know is dudes just want to go to another world, take that guy and then they'll get their mind off it.
"In terms of medical, no idea mate, I'd probably stick to prescription, eh."
The press pack then told him that medicinal cannabis is legal in several US states, Adams quipped: "Whose doctor's this? Where's that doctor?"
The journos then told him another legendary coach Phil Jackson had also admitted to medical use of the substance.
"I assume they probably enjoyed themselves," Adams joked.
"It would help with the sickness or whatever because being sick sucks. But they use it, they're happy."
Adams was also asked about team-mate Russell Westbrook's amazing rebounding feats this season.
Westbrook is averaging a triple-double of 31.0 points, 10.9 rebounds and 11.3 assists so far this season, leading to speculation he could become the first player in 55 years to average a triple-double for the entire season.
Adams, who is averaging a career-high 7.7 rebounds per game, said he was happy to give up his rebounds to Westbrook as long as the American superstar maintained his triple-double average in games.
"As long as our team gets a rebound, it doesn't matter," Adams said. "There's just some funny ones we always kind of mock him about. Like Joffrey [Lauvergne] clearly has two hands on the ball and aaahhh ...
"No one cares. I like it because I can actually really box out my dude. It's good that he actually gets to come in and just like take it. I don't mind it."
Adams and the Thunder's next game is on this Saturday (NZT) at home against the Houston Rockets.
