Versatile American guard DJ Newbill has signed with the New Zealand Breakers, giving the NBL club two quality international guards in a revamped backcourt.
Newbill will join Dominican Republic point guard specialist Edgar Sosa in what shapes as the second and final import signing for the season.
The Breakers could snare a third import but coach Paul Henare has indicated the remaining roster spots will probably go to a New Zealander.
Henare says 25-year-old Newbill more than proved his ability in four years at Pennsylvania State University, where he was a dominant performer in his senior year.
Considered unlucky not to be drafted by an NBA team in 2015, Newbill has stood out for club teams in Turkey and Belgium.
