The Nelson Giants are the outright leaders in the National Basketball League after an 80-69 win over the Christchurch Cougars at the Trafalgar Centre in Nelson.
The Giants raced out to a healthy 24-11 lead in the first quarter, but the Cougars drew level in the third and headed into the final period five points ahead.
The fourth quarter belonged to Phill Jones, as the Giants stalwart single-handedly took the game away from the Cougars on his way to a game high 32 points.
