The Orlando Magic this morning confirmed the hiring of Scott Skiles as their new head coach.
Skiles, who has compiled a 443-433 record during his 13 years as an NBA head coach, replaces interim coach James Borrego in the franchise's first major move since firing Jacque Vaughn during the 2014-2015 NBA season.
Orlando fans have a fond memory of Skiles, with the former point guard playing five seasons with the Magic in his ten-year career, including setting the NBA record for assists in a game with 30.
"Scott clearly distinguished himself as a tremendous fit. Our young roster will benefit greatly from Scott's extensive head coaching experience and commitment to teaching smart, physical, unselfish basketball. We believe in Scott's ability to establish a culture of winning habits and accountability that will help guide our team in a positive direction," said Orlando Magic general manager Rob Hennigan.
Skiles' previous head coaching stints in the league include time spent in charge of the Phoenix Suns (1999-2002), Chicago Bulls (2003-2007) and Milwaukee Bucks (2008-2013). He made the playoffs on six occassions, making the conference semifinals twice, but only cracked the 50-win barrier once.
