It is rare territory for two sides who have been the pinnacle of the new NBA this season, emphasising ball movement and three-point shooting on their way to notching 60 and 67 regular season wins respectively.
The Hawks have advanced to their first Eastern Conference Finals in franchise history, holding on to beat the Washington Wizards 94-91 this afternoon to take the series 4-2 and set up a meeting with the Cleveland Cavaliers starting on Thursday.
25 points and 10 rebounds from DeMarre Carroll was added to by Paul Millsap's 20 points and 13 rebounds, while point guard Jeff Teague put up 20 points, five rebounds and seven assists as the Hawks survived a late three pointer from Paul Pierce to cling to the victory.
Pierce's triple would have sent the game to overtime, only to be ruled to have been released just fractions after the buzzer went off, with excellent performances from guard duo John Wall (20 points, six rebounds and 13 assists) and Bradley Beal (29 points) coming up just short for Randy Wittman's squad.
