KEY POINTS:
New Zealand captain Pero Cameron has signed up to play for the Gold Coast Blaze in the Australian National Basketball League (ANBL) this season.
Currently with Banvit in the Turkish league, Cameron has also played professionally for teams in the United Kingdom, Australia and Iran.
At 2.01m and 120kg, the Tall Blacks captain is expected to be a dominating force in the ANBL. Despite his size he is an accurate outside shooter and a good passer, skills usually found in smaller forwards.
Cameron has played in the New Zealand National Basketball League since 1992 and has won seven New Zealand championships.
He played for the New Zealand Breakers in the ANBL in the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons and led the Tall Blacks to a surprising fourth place in the 2002 world championships in Indianapolis, where he became the only non-NBA player to make the All-Tournament Team.
Gold Coast coach Brendan Joyce is impressed with the calibre of the athletes the club have signed and said the players would complement each other.
"Pero has such a diverse range of experience, having played professionally in countries from New Zealand, Iran and Turkey and he will play a vital role in leading younger and less experienced players through the first season," Joyce said.
"Throughout a career of more than 15 years, Pero has proved his versatility, showing skills not often associated with someone of his size. He is also a good decision maker on court and has legitimate three-point range on his shot."
Cameron said he was excited with his new team.
"I'm particularly excited about working with our group and having a hand in how we all come together as a team," he said.
