Basketball: Breakers' star to miss parade

An important face will be missing from the Breakers squad when they celebrate their ANBL title achievement with a parade in Auckland's CBD on Friday.

Retiring guard Paul Henare is due in Hawke's Bay on Friday morning to begin his new role as a player/coach of NBL team the Hawks.

Henare says it's important he meets his new team before their next game.

He says it's an unfortunate situation but he'll just have to watch the parade on television.

Henare says he'll still be attending the Breakers awards dinner on Thursday night.
