The Breakers have confirmed their second import and 10th and final roster spot for the upcoming Australian NBL season, unveiling 2.06m Ekene Ibekwe for the New Zealand franchise's 2014-15 campaign.
A mobile power forward/centre, Ibekwe brings a wealth of experience at both club and national team level, having represented his parents' country of Nigeria throughout his career, leading the team in rebounding at the 2006 Fiba World Championships and playing at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Breakers coach Dean Vickerman said Ibekwe will bring plenty of game to the club. "I watched Ekene while in Vegas recently and immediately liked what I saw. He has a 7ft 6in [2.28m] wingspan, plays above the rim and is an elite shot blocker. He can rebound for us but also has a perimeter shot."
Ibekwe was born and bred in Los Angeles after his parents moved to the United States from Nigeria.
He went to the University of Maryland before playing in Israel, Germany, France, Turkey and most recently in Spain.
