Basketball: Another NZ NBL win for Sharks

The Southland Sharks have cruised to a 100-76 win over the struggling Bay Hawks at Pettigrew Arena.

Australian, Nick Kay, put together a dominant performance, scoring 32 points (14-19 FG) for the Sharks who have won their second straight.

After only leading by three at halftime, Southland stepped it up in the second outscoring the Hawks 57-36.

The Hawks had no answer for point guard Jordair Jett, who was able to get into the paint at will, tallying 24 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

It was a disjointed effort from the Hawks, only scoring 76 points on 37%, but coach Kirsten Daly-Taylor will be more disappointed with her sides defense, allowing the Sharks to score far too many easy layups.

Forward Chris Porter was the leading scorer for the Bay with 22 points, also grabbing 10 rebounds. Alonzo Burton was the next best with 13, Kareem Johnson added 10.

Southland owned the boards, outrebounding the Hawks 41-30, Alex Pledger grabbing 16.

The Hawks have now dropped their first three at home, and will host another tough opponent in the Canterbury Rams on Easter Monday.

Southland will travel to Christchurch to play the Rams Friday.
