Bail conditions changed so basketballer facing assault charges can have a Christmas beer

Basketball star Corey Anthony Webster has had his bail conditions changed so he can have a beer with his family on Christmas Day.

The 28-year-old basketball star appeared in the North Shore District Court.

The Tall Black has been charged with two charges of assault and one count of assault with intent to injure.

His lawyer Fletcher Pilditch applied for a variation in Webster's bail condition so he could have a beer with his family on Christmas Day.

Judge Lawrence Hinton allowed the application, however Webster is not allowed to be intoxicated or drunk in a public place.

Webster did not fit the description of someone who should have a no-alcohol condition to his bail and didn't see any reason as to why it should continue, Judge Hinton said.

Webster has not yet entered a plea to the three charges and will reappear in court in February.

Webster was arrested at a Takapuna nightspot on November 30.

The basketballer has earlier told the Herald on Sunday he would "vigorously" defend the original charge of assault.

"The club has supported me 100 per cent and I am grateful for that but I can't say anything much more about the situation at the moment."
