The Wellington Saints have lost the chance of holding a home National Basketball League (NBL) final on June 27 even if they beat Auckland in Sunday's semifinal.
As winners of this year's regular season title, the Saints had the option of a home final if they won Sunday's game, but a booking clash at the Events Centre resulted in the Saints having to find an alternative venue for a possible final.
The second option of Walter Nash Stadium in Lower Hutt was today rejected by the NBL board who said it was not up to standard.
The final will be held at either Taradale or Nelson depending on the outcome of Saturday's second semifinal between Hawke's Bay and Nelson.
As fourth qualifiers, Auckland have no chance of hosting the match even if they make next week's final.
