The Texas Rangers have advanced to the World Series for the first ever time with a 6-1 defeat of the New York Yankees in Game 6 of the American League Championship series.
The win gave the underdog Rangers a 4-2 victory in the best-of-seven series.
The franchise had reached the playoffs before, only to be eliminated by the Yankees.
Their opponent in what the Americans call the Fall Classic could be known this afternoon.
The Philadelphia Phillies face off against the San Francisco Giants in Game 6 of the National League Championship series in Philadelphia.
The Giants currently have the advantage, 3-2, in the best-of-seven series.
If the Phillies win today, the series decider will be played tomorrow, in the same city.
The 2010 World Series will start at the home of National League champion on Wednesday.
