Baseball: Ticket prices for the World Series are insane

You probably could've seen this coming, but World Series ticket prices are going to be very expensive this time around.

With the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians going head-to-head in Major League Baseball's showpiece event starting on Wednesday, we're witnessing a matchup of two historically hard-luck franchises.

The Indians haven't won the title since 1948. The Cubs haven't since 1908, and haven't even made it to the World Series since 1945.

So it's a rare opportunity for both fan bases to see their teams compete for a trophy, and as such, tickets on the secondary market are going through the roof.

The data below, from VividSeats.com, shows the cheapest tickets - or "get-in price" - and the average price for tickets for every game of the series (note: all prices have been converted to NZD).

Game 1 at Cleveland - Get-in price: $1310, median price: $3043

Game 2 at Cleveland - Get-in price: $1234, median price: $3144

Game 3 at Chicago - Get-in price: $2772, median price: $7684

Game 4 at Chicago - Get-in price: $3622, median price: $8662

Game 5 at Chicago (if necessary) - Get-in price: $3684, median price: $10,191

Game 6 at Cleveland (if necessary) - Get-in price: $1254, median price: $4191

Game 7 at Cleveland (if necessary) - Get-in price: $1512, median price: $4968

Those prices are astronomically higher than any other in recent years.

The average price to see the Kansas City Royals and New York Mets a year ago was just $1056, and that was the highest price of the past four seasons, for which VividSeats.com has data.
