Major League Baseball's all-time hit leader Pete Rose marked his 15th year of a lifetime ban from the sport by admitting yesterday he gambled on baseball games when he was manager of the Cincinnati Reds.
Asked by ABC's Charles Gibson why he broke the rule on gambling, the 62-year-old Rose said: "Well, I wish I could answer that question, but I just can't. I was wrong. It was the worst thing I did in my life ... I've had to live with that for 15 years."
Rose was banned from Major League Baseball in 1989 for his gambling activities. The man known as "Charlie Hustle" for his stellar work ethic never publicly acknowledged that he bet on baseball.
