Chicago Cubs outfielder Tyson Colvin is in a stable condition in a Miami Hospital after a piece of a broken bat pierced his chest during a Major League Baseball game in Florida.
The bat shattered during Cubs catcher Wellington Castillo's turn at bat during the match against the Florida Marlins.
Colvin was running from third base to home when a portion of the bat struck him in the upper left side of his chest.
Cubs officials say his chest was punctured but the bat did not stick into it.
The Cubs won the National League match 13-6.
The Boston Red Sox kept their slim playoff hopes alive with a 6-0 win over the Toronto Blue Jays while their American League East rivals New York and Tampa Bay both suffered losses.
Victor Martinez hit his 18th and JD Drew his 19th home run of the season.
