The New York Mets became the first team to clinch a place in the eight-berth Major League Baseball playoffs when they notched a 2-0 win over Florida yesterday, to secure the National League East division title.
The Mets, 91-58, won their first division crown in 18 years and reached the playoffs for the first time since 2000, when they won the league crown as a wildcard team but lost to the New York Yankees in the World Series.
