Outfielder Hideki Matsui has agreed to a four-year US$52 million ($76 million) deal with the New York Yankees that will make him the highest-paid Japanese baseballer in the major leagues.
The 31-year-old will earn US$13 million a season. His contract exceeds the four-year, US$44 million deal that Ichiro Suzuki signed with Seattle before the 2004 season.
