Kiwi baseball player Nick Maronde has been acquired by the Miami Marlins organization in the Rule 5 Draft today.
The left-handed pitcher, who played for the Diamondblacks at the World Baseball Classic qualifiers earlier this year, had been in the minor leagues with the Cleveland Indians but they chose not to protect him leaving him free for selection by rival teams.
The Rule 5 Draft is designed to prevent teams from stock piling talent in the minor leagues that other clubs would rather have on their major league team.
