KEY POINTS:
New Zealand baseball player Scott Campbell has been selected to play for the World Futures All Star team in New York next month.
The game on July 15 precedes the Major League All Star game played at Yankee Stadium and places the best young up-and-coming foreign players against the best of the emerging American talent.
Campbell, 23, has enjoyed an excellent terrific season with his New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
The second baseman leads their batting stats with a .353 batting average.
Two years ago Aucklander Campbell became the first New Zealander to be drafted by a major league baseball team in North America when he was plucked out of the pool in the 10th round by the Toronto Blue Jays.
He then signed a minor league contract with the club.
