The Auckland Badminton International has become a benefit for players from the stronghold of Taiwan, with the depth and talent of that nation showing through.
In the singles quarter-finals, five out of eight women are from Taiwan while two of the men from the same country. A pair in each of the men's and women's doubles are also Taiwanese as is a pair in the mixed doubles.
Men's top seed James Eunson from Southland bucked the trend, beating Taiwanese player Yu-Hsiang Chiu in straight games to win through to the last eight without too much hassle. He now takes on Welsh player Raj Popat for a place in the semifinals.
Other Kiwis into the last eight are TJ Weistra, the current New Zealand champion, who plays Australian Luke Chong, while Joe Wu will have a challenge against Taiwan's Po Wei Cheng who accounted for second seed Bjorn Seguin.
In the women's quarter-finals, former Commonwealth Games gold medallist Tracey Hallam will take on Australian Tara Pilven while second seed Anna Rankin of Southland will play Yu Chieh Cheng (Taiwan) for a spot in the semifinals.
