Badminton: Shirley into quarterfinals in Germany

New Zealand's Dan Shirley and his Malaysian partner Joanne Quay have advanced to the quarterfinals of the $US50,000 ($NZ77,065) Bitburger Open badminton event in Germany.

Shirley and Quay took just 23 minutes to beat a Canadian pairing 21-14 21-13 today.

They play a German combination seeded second in the tournament tomorrow.
