An injury to doubles player Dan Shirley compounded the New Zealand badminton team's misery as they lost 5-0 to Indonesia at the Thomas Cup world teams championships in Sendai, Japan, yesterday.
It was the team's second 5-0 whitewash from two matches after the opening-day loss to Korea.
Shirley suffered a groin injury during their doubles match against Candra Wijaya and Sigit Budiartoafter, forcing he and Craig Cooper to default after losing the first set 21-18.
New Zealand lost all their matches in straight sets.
World no 33 John Moody pushed no 12 Taufik Hidayat to 19-21, 15-21 while newcomer Henry Tam, ranked outside the top-200, lost to no 20 Soni Dwi Kuncoro 10-21, 1-21.
