Badminton: Kiwis slump in quarters

Local representation at the New Zealand Badminton Open at the North Shore Events Centre finished at the quarter-finals stage with the two remaining men's and women's doubles teams defeated in straight games.

The unheralded Wellington duo of Chris Lee and Jian Dee Chew lost to the second seeds Fernando Kurniawan and Lingga Lie (Indonesia) 21-12, 21-9 in the men's doubles , but can still feel proud of doing better than any other Kiwi team.

The women's doubles team of Michelle KY Chan and Rachel Hindley were beaten by Indians Aparna Balan and Shruit Kurian 21-7, 21-14.
